Serving on The Art Therapy Project’s Board offers more than a leadership opportunity, it is a way to honor our shared responsibility to one another and take a proactive role in expanding access to mental health care.


Join a Committee

Volunteering on a committee provides a meaningful opportunity to gain hands-on experience while supporting a mission-driven organization dedicated to making a difference.

Development & Marketing Committee

TATP is looking for networkers, relationship-builders, and corporate partnership professionals to join our Development & Marketing Committee, helping expand relationships across NYC and beyond. Your role will be to:

  • Support Board Members in achieving their Give/Get responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and planning guidance with respect to TATP events and other fundraising activities

  • Formulate ideas with respect to fundraising activities, and cultivate relationships with key influencers, individuals, and corporations who could become major donors or attract a broad audience of donors and supporters

  • Identify and secure co-chairs for Gala

  • Oversee branding and messaging story, websites, social media and marketing materials

  • Assist in creation of visuals and organizing content for printed and digital materials

  • Help with PR outreach which includes recruiting editors, writers and bloggers to attend our events

Desired skills:

  • Client relationship management and corporate partnership building

  • Strategic fundraising knowledge

  • Brand identity management and messaging framework development

  • Social media strategy, digital content creation, and digital advertising

  • PR and media outreach 

Special Events Committee

The Special Events Committee is a subcommittee of the Development & Marketing Committee, and plays a vital role in supporting TATP’s fundraising and visibility efforts. Work closely with the Development & Marketing Committee, TATP Staff, and Board of Directors to:

  • Support fundraising events including but not limited to:

    • The Annual Spring Spectacular (April / May) - raising funds for programs

    • Craft and Care (Oct/Nov) - raising funds for youth programs

  • Identify and secure sponsors

  • Secure auction items and SWAG

  • Recruit and train event day/evening volunteers

  • Assist with event production and logistics

  • Assist with marketing efforts

  • Help sell tickets

Committee members may choose to commit to any or all events.

Desired skills:

  • Event planning and coordination for fundraising events

  • Venue logistics and management

  • Event sponsorship acquisition

  • Auction item and in-kind donation solicitation

  • Volunteer recruitment and management

Finance & Audit Committee

We are currently seeking financially minded professionals to join our Finance Committee to help support our growth and sustainability including but not limited to:

  • Review the annual budget, audit and annual tax filings

  • Monitor and analyze year-to-date performance vs. budget, cash position, and other financial matters including fiscal policies

  • Report on budgetary concerns or opportunities.

  • Meet with auditors as needed

Desired skills:

  • Nonprofit accounting and finance expertise

  • Financial planning and analysis of budgets, cash flow projections, and YTD performance

  • Nonprofit audit experience

  • Strategic financial advisory and risk management

Nominating & Governance Committee

TATP is looking for members to join our Nominating & Governance Committee to help:

  • Identify and cultivate the best-qualified candidates for the board

  • Establish board composition priorities and selection criteria

  • Assess potential board candidates and vet them to ensure they have the proper competencies, experience and willingness to fulfill their duties and responsibilities

  • Develop board enrichment activities, retreat and expectations

  • Distribute, analyze and present annual Board assessment, and provide guidance to ensure any resulting action steps are implemented

Desired skills:

  • Talent acquisition and executive-level vetting

  • Organizational development and nonprofit governance

  • Board structure knowledge, including bylaws and compliance

  • Leadership retreat planning, volunteer onboarding programs, and enrichment activities

Programs Committee

We're looking for members to join our Programs Committee to help us guide program expansion and advise on standards of care and assessment tools as well as:

  • Provide strategic direction and planning guidance with respect to TATP programming consistent with the mission

  • Oversee program expansion and development of other clinical activities including continuing education, wellness workshops and research

  • Explore ideas and opportunities to develop alternative, traditional and innovative programs

  • Provide oversight and support regarding standards of high-quality care and the development of assessment tools and relevant research

Desired skills:

  • Clinical or healthcare background (social work, psychology, counseling, art therapy)

  • Program scaling, pilot modeling, and continuing education development

  • Behavioral and clinical assessment tool implementation and tracking

  • Academic or clinical research experience
