Upcoming Fall 2026 Art Therapy Programs

This fall, The Art Therapy Project is expanding clinical group programming across New York City through new and renewed partnerships:

New Programs This Fall:

  • Life is Precious™️ (Comunilife): Weekly after-school art therapy groups across two sites supporting youth who are navigating depression, suicidal ideation, and emotional distress. Focuses on self-esteem, healthy identity development, and building long-term emotional resilience through community.

  • Lantern Community Services: Pilot groups across two supportive housing residences. Focuses on stress reduction, substance use recovery, community integration, and emotional processing for adults transitioning from homelessness.

Youth Programs

Our ongoing youth partnerships provide structured, trauma-informed art therapy groups to build emotional regulation, establish self-identity and work through tough challenges like grief, bullying, relationships and trauma:

  • JVL Wildcat Academy: Returning after a one-year hiatus due to  the school’s loss of government funding, our weekly sessions support high school students working toward their diplomas. The program focuses on navigating life stressors, identity formation, and building healthy coping alternatives to substance use

  • Mount Pleasant Blythedale : Serving a school community dedicated to medically fragile students in grades Pre-K–12, our art therapy program supports middle and high schoolers navigating complex medical conditions and limited mobility. Through sensory grounding and narrative art-making, students have a safe space to process the complexity and fragility of their physical state, and find new outlets for hope, joy, and connection.

  • New Destiny Housing (NDH): Partnering with New Destiny Housing to serve families in supportive housing for domestic violence survivors, our youth program supports children and teens (ages 6–12+). Through guided art-making, participants safely process complex feelings of fear and grief while building healthy communication, focus, and self-worth.

  • Avenues for Justice (AFJ): Supports system-involved young people (ages 13–24) across two community centers with weekly art therapy focused on emotional regulation, self-discovery, and developing healthy coping strategies and goals for the future.

  • Center for Supportive Schools (CSS): In partnership with CSS, these groups help students navigate challenges such as stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, and anger management. Held during the school day, the program creates a supportive, community-centered space where students feel safe, heard, and empowered to build healthy coping skills.

  • The Comprehensive Adolescent Rehabilitation and Education Service (CARES): CARES at Mt. Sinai supports NYC public high school students whose previous learning has been limited by emotional and behavioral difficulties. Our art therapy programs help these youth learn to better understand the spectrum of their emotions, navigate complex feelings, and develop healthy ways to cope with distress.

Year-Round Adult Art Therapy Programs

We provide trauma-informed group art therapy for adults navigating complex life transitions and trauma, including:

  • Survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence

  • LGBTQIA+ community members

  • Older adults and individuals living with memory loss

  • Sexual assault survivors

  • Adults in substance use recovery

  • Military veterans

In these supportive group spaces, participants uncover the roots of distress, transform unhealthy coping mechanisms, and cultivate sustainable, life-affirming ways of relating to themselves and others.

Most of our services are offered in collaboration with programs partners, where we place an art therapist on site to support their needs. We host six Community Groups in our studio space, offering free group art therapy to some of our most at-risk adult clients. These include female identifying survivors of sexual trauma, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and military veterans.

If you, a client, or someone in your network identifies with one of these programs and could benefit from group art therapy, please submit a client referral using the form below.
