Throw Me Something, Mista!
Strewn with strands of beads everywhere, the Woods Room at Christie’s in Rockefeller Plaza was jumping as 40 employees celebrated Mardi Gras with The Art Therapy Project! To the soundtrack of New Orleans jazz, and a menu of traditional favorites including jambalaya, Voo Doo Chips and King Cake, Clinical Director Lindsay Lederman led guests in two art-making activities to educate new and potential volunteers about our work.
Lederman, ATR-BC, LCAT, ATCS led the group through two directives: Inspiration/Affirmation Stones and Containment Boxes. Guests learned about affirmation stones and made one to remind them of their own needs and strengths, using images of their “happy place” or a famous quote they found inspirational). They also created boxes of safety and security: a place to keep their stones or whatever else they might want to keep inside of them.
Two of the event’s organizers, Jessica Fryer and Erin Schuppert, said, “Christie’s Corporate Social Responsibility Committee is delighted that we were able to partner with The Art Therapy Project on this event. Working in an auction house exposes us to wonderful art every day, but having the opportunity to hear about art’s healing powers and to make some ourselves was truly special. We also loved being able to incorporate Mardi Gras and celebrate the season in style!”
The Art Therapy Project-Christie’s partnership began last year when the organization was invited to participate in Christie’s Arts Organizations Appreciation Day. More than a dozen generous employees signed up as new volunteers and many have joined the Young Professionals Leadership Group.
